2016 House Parties

2016 House Parties

For 20 to 40 guests.

There is nothing quite like a winter House Party at historic Bickleigh Castle. It is not like being at a hotel, because our house parties are exclusive events where we are hosting only your group of friends and relations; the experience is that of staying at a country estate with staffing levels comparable to pre-war days to prepare and serve your meals and look after your every need over a long weekend.

You can enjoy a variety of activities to suit your taste – we have had ‘zorbing’, treasure hunts, cycling, tennis (hard court), shooting, tug-of-war, horse-riding, falconry, balloon rides and country walks. You can have an informal rugby match, or, if (as occasionally happens) we have some snow, tobogganing. In the evenings we can lend you cards, chess and other games, and can set one of the rooms up as a cinema if you have a particular movie to watch. And, of course, we have a proper Bar replete with barman.

With several receptions rooms at your disposal, you can have a drinks party, or musical soiree, up in our medieval Great Hall, with a roaring log fire and (near Christmas) a magnificent tree, or perhaps a formal dinner in our banqueting room. And if you like dancing, we have the bar and conservatory area where you can do any dancing from a Highland Cèilidh to the latest pop.

The Estate contains our wonderful and ancient Saxon chapel, and, while it is normally used when we hold weddings, we can organise an evensong or carol service for your group. We are also very happy to give you a guided history tour of the Castle.

Bickleigh Castle stands within a substantial acreage of gardens, woods and adjoining fields, with the River Exe running through the centre of the estate, spanned by our own bridge. Fly fishing is popular on our stretch of river, which is home to trout, grayling and sometimes migratory salmon.

The Bickleigh Castle Estate is a haven for wildlife, and, with its beautiful setting, is truly a photographer’s paradise.

So, if you are thinking of holding a gathering of friends and relations for any reason, why not come and see us, and we can help you to plan a really enjoyable and memorable weekend.

House Parties in 2016 will be the last to be held at the current rate of £285 per person.  Accommodation is mainly in our Grade 2 listed thatched cottages, with one grander room in the Castle itself. We have a very cosy guests’ sitting room where you can relax at any time, and link up to the internet.  There is extensive free parking; the railway stations (Tiverton Parkway and Exeter St Davids) are less than half an hour away, as is Exeter Airport. We have a disabled parking facility and several rooms are accessible to people in wheelchairs. We regret, no pets please. Some activities necessarily incur an additional cost. .
